The Most Commonly Used Words in English

Many people I work with ask me if there are any specific words they should learn that would help them with their English.

According to Edward Bernard Fry, Ph.D, Jacqueline E. Kress, Ed.D & Dona Lee Fountoukidis, Ed.D. in their book, The Reading Teachers Book of Lists, Third Edition, there are 300 words that make up about 65% of written material in the English language.

For this article, we will be taking a look at the first 100 words from the total list.  These are words that I would highly recommend that you master in your daily speech, as they will significantly affect your spoken English!

The following words have been divided up into sections to show you how they rank and the percentage of printed material they represent in the English language.
