Want a new circumstance in your life?  Want an old one to change? Want a relationship to get better or someone to believe in you?
You are way more powerful than you think.  The power resides within you.

Attitude determines everything and you have the power to choose yours.  Your attitude begins with your thoughts, beliefs and the story you are telling yourself. To change your attitude you must be willing to change your story and the role you give others in it.

Let me give you an example.  Think about your life experience.  On a “bad” day the story you tell is one of woe and struggle, is it not?  On a “good” day, the story might be of miracles and kindnesses and happy circumstance.  But both are a story, are they not?  They are the story of your life with a positive attitude or a negative one. Both are true, the only difference is how you have chosen to see and relate your story.

I know a woman who has several kids and an alcoholic husband who is on the brink of financial disaster.  And I know a woman who has a husband who loves her whom she loves, is blessed with beautiful, brilliant children who has a nice home and everything she needs. They are the same family.  She could tell either story depending on whether she chose the attitude of worry and lack or the attitude of gratitude and abundance.  The question is where does she want to put her powerful creative power; into the story of looming disaster or the story of faith, love and peace?

Attitude Serves You

If you want a better relationship with someone, and you have the attitude that he or she is a bad person or is unfair or is always out to get you, then nothing will change because you are not changing your story of them.  If you were to apply your power to change your story to one in which that same person wants to be good and kind and do the right thing, then you have opened up the possibility and willingness to improve that relationship simply by choosing a better attitude, an attitude that serves you.

If you want a circumstance in your life to change for the better, you must choose a better story by choosing more positive thoughts, resulting in a more positive attitude. As long as you keep the same attitude, reinforced by the same old thoughts and same old story, nothing can change.

Do you see how powerful you are?  None of us can change other people! BUT, we have tremendous power to change our attitude about them, which changes how we see and experience them, and lo and behold, our relationship with them. Isn’t that incredible?  That makes you the most powerful person in your world!

Dale Carnegie said: Happiness doesn’t depend on any external conditions, it is governed by our mental attitude. Earl Nightingale said: Our attitude towards others determines their attitude towards us. Everything in your day is determined by your attitude. Your attitude determines your experience of your world.

To review: your attitude determines your experience of your relationship to others and the circumstances of your existence.  Your attitude is created in response to your thoughts and the story you choose to perpetuate about others and your life. You are the most powerful being in your life because you choose your story every minute of your day. The power resides within you.

Let’s try it out

  • What is one relationship or circumstance you would like to change?
  • What is your story about that person or circumstance?
  • What would be an improved story that would serve you better?
  • What would you have to give up to change your story?
  • Are you willing to give up the control, pity, anger or righteousness you would have to give up to create a better story?

If the answer is no…than the story, relationship or circumstance will not improve.

If the answer is yes, then make the decision to change the story by changing your attitude and do so.

Be vigilant about your thoughts and words and make sure you stay in alignment with the story you want to create.

Watch the “miracle” of improved relations and circumstances unfold. Congratulations.  You are one powerful being.

Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.  ~ Khalil Gibran
