Yes, rejection can be difficult. There are many reasons for this. Perhaps we tie rejection of a work project to rejection of us personally. Perhaps we feel we have hit a dead end. Perhaps we feel we have failed. There are many stories we tell ourselves about rejection, and usually the stories are not helpful to us, our careers, or our enjoyment of life.
It is time to create some positive hard evidence about rejection. Write down five (5) times you or something you worked on were rejected. Then write about the alternate course you had to take due to that rejection. What benefits of that alternate course did you receive which you would not have if you had not been rejected?
Another way about this is the reverse. Write down five things, places, people, or events which make you incredibly happy. Then write down what happened just before you received them into your life. Then write what happened before then. Repeat this again and again until you find a situation of rejection which was a redirection to that thing which makes you happy.
Often we are too caught up in the emotion of the rejection because we believe we are being victimized, discarded, minimized, or otherwise harmed by the rejection. Instead, build up your belief based on concrete proof that behind every rejection is an opportunity which would not have otherwise been present had things gone as planned. Then replace the word “rejection” with “redirection” and uncover the good which is headed your way.
Question: What are your techniques for redirection?
